Habitat and Description: Wild carrot is found abundantly in dry meadows and verges in Europe and naturalised in North America. The stems are firm, growing to approximately 30cm, with a solid umbellifer shaped flower head composed of many creamy white/pink flowers with a few darker purple ones in the centre (this helps with identifiation, there are poisonous lookalikes which don't have these). The leaves a pinnate and finely divided and smell of carrots when crushed. The flower heads curl inwards as they go to seed, making some gorgeous shapes.
Constituents: Volatile oils, flavonoids, alkaloids (notably daucine), porphyrin, furanocoumarins
Actions: Diuretic, anti-inflammatory, urinary anti-inflammatory, carminative, antispasmodic, anti-rheumatic, detoxification support, uterine tonic and aphrodisiac (old traditional)
