Common name: White Horehound

Family: Lamiaceae

Part used: Flowering aerial parts

Habitat: Now uncommon in the wild in the UK, but  tolerant of heat and cultivated widely across the world including Mexico and Brazil.

Constituents: Terpenes, flavonoids, volatile oils

Actions: Expectorant, bitter, anti-oxidant

Traditional and current uses:

• A bitter tonic to improve digestion and poor appetite

• Bronchitis, whooping cough, respiratory tract catarrh, dry cough, chronic cough

• PCOS (polycystic Ovarian Syndrome)
